YG BRIEFLY DETAINED DURING DRAKEO THE RULER MURDER INVESTIGATION SEARCH, VERZUZ BATTLE STILL ON

A major West Coast music moment nearly collided with a developing homicide investigation Thursday morning. Compton rapper YG was briefly detained while authorities executed a search warrant at a Burbank commercial property reportedly connected to him, just hours before his highly anticipated VERZUZ battle against The Game.

According to law enforcement officials, the California Highway Patrol worked alongside the Burbank Police Department’s SWAT team to serve the warrant in the 400 block of Moss Street. Authorities confirmed that the operation was connected to the ongoing investigation into the December 2021 killing of Los Angeles rapper Drakeo the Ruler. YG, whose legal name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, was detained while officers carried out the search. However, officials emphasized that he was not arrested and was later released. No criminal charges against YG were announced, and authorities have not publicly identified him as a suspect in Drakeo’s death. That distinction matters. Being detained during the execution of a search warrant does not automatically mean someone has been accused of committing a crime. Investigators have also released few details about what they were searching for, what may have been recovered or why the property became part of the investigation.
